(English, 1785 – 1851) A mid 19th century oil on panel of a London to Leeds Royal Mail coach . carriage/ six-in- hand driving through deep snow on approach to a village by Henry Thomas Alken Snr. (English, 1785 – 1851). The coach wearing the correct Royal Mail livery, black with red door and lower panels, Post Office red wheels, and The Royal Coat of Arms on the door. The reverse bears stencilled Christie’s number N 843 to the reverse. English, circa 1830.

The coach wearing the correct Royal Mail livery, black with red door and lower panels, Post Office red wheels, and The Royal Coat of Arms on the door with the name of the town at the end of the coach’s route. The reverse bears ink label “Coaching Scene A Alken Sen. Very rare old painting. Horses - "doing Collar work" up the hill”. Monogrammed and dated on the milestone “1815”. English, 1815.
