“The Sentinel” A pencil drawing by Thomas Landseer ARA (1793 or 1794 – 20 January 1880) after Sir Edwin Henry Landseer RA (7 March 1802 – 1 October 1873) oil painting of the same. A black Spaniel (Dash) dog barks at a recumbent St Bernard (Lion), Being portraits of Lion and Dash, the Duke of Beaufort's dogs, from the painting Edwin Landseer exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1840. Thomas Landseer engraved a mixed media on chine collé print of the work, published 18th June, 1844 by Henry Graves & Co. English, circa 1844.

An absolutely superb pencil drawing of the Royal dogs "Hector, Nero, and Dash with the parrot, Lory" attributable to Thomas Landseer ARA (1795-1880) after Sir Edwin Landseer RA (English, 1802-1873). This famous portrait of the Royal pets depicts the greyhound Nero, Hector, the Scottish deerhound, Dash the spaniel and Lory, the parrot seen cracking nuts, was painted by Landseer in 1838 for Queen Victoria. The Queen considered Landseer work as “the most beautiful thing imaginable”. It was later dubbed by the Queen as being 'too beautiful' (Journal, 4 May 1838). English, circa 1840.
