A “Marble Hill Gallery 72 Richmond Road Twickenham Middx” label to the reverse reads “C Ambler. The Two Friends, pencil and coloured mashes, heightened with white. Lived in Buckhurst Hill Esses , Exhibited two works at the Royal Academy between 1912-1914.” With stock number “P926ms”.

The image was also used in a Texaco Motor Oil advertisement with the caption "Listen! To the improvement in your engine". The "Texaco Company bought the copyright and distributed complimentary copies of "Listen" through "The Texaco Exhibit, Central Pier, 1400 Broadwalk, Atlantic City". Sculptures titled "Listen" were also produced.
