An oil of a Blenheim King Charles Spaniel Signed by Henry Hugh Armstead RA (English, 1828 - 1905) An oil on panel of a Blenheim King Charles Spaniel recumbent upon a silk covered table by Henry Hugh Armstead RA (London 18 June 1828 - 4 December 1905 London). Signed "Hugh Armstead" and dated "1866".
The oil is clearly partly inspired by Sir Edwin Landseer RA, (1802-1873) earlier, 1845 Royal Academy exhibit of the King Charles Spaniels (also known as the "The Cavalier's Hat" / "The Cavalier's Pets").
The reverse bears a Richard Green 44, Dover Street, London, W1X 4JQ label "Henry Hugh ARMSTEAD - A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - Signed and dated "1866 " Panel: 12 x 14 in " AK305 (Stock Number).

King Charles Cavalier Spaniel bronze sculpture Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1796-1875) A bronze of a pair of King Charles Cavalier Spaniels seated on a tassled cushion by Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1796- 1875).
It was made as a "presse-papiers" and exhibited at the goldsmith Fauconnier. For another example see the collection of the Walter Art Collection in Baltimore Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum. There is also an example owned by the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of America, that is given annually to the "Best in Show" recipient. Illustrated in "Barye: Catalogue Raisonn" des Sculptures (Gallimard, 2000), by Michel Poletti and Alain Richarme.

"Fire worshippers"dry-point etching by Herbert Thomas Dicksee (1862-1942) "Fire worshippers", a pencil signed artist's proof dry-point etching of a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and a Scottish Deerhound by Herbert Thomas Dicksee R.E (1862-1942. Exhibited, 1899 at the Royal Academy, exhibit number 1515. Lettered middle bottom "London, Published 1899, by C E Clifford & Co., 21 Haymarket SW", beneath signed in pencil "Herbert Dicksee". It was first published, 1899, by printsellers C E Clifford & Co., of 200 Piccadilly, later of 21 Haymarket.
Frost and Reed further published the work in 1906. There is an example of the etching in the National Trust property, Tyntesfield, North Somerset. In original black ebonised frame. English, 1899.

"Champion Caris" by Monica Gray Monica Gray (late 19th - early 20th century). Oil on board'-Champion Caris'. English, circa 1910.
This was a Blenheim, sired by Sweet Anne Page and dammed by Ch. The Cherub (326F) was born on the 12th December 1907. (Sweet Anne Page was sired by Crooks, (unregistered), and dammed by Convolvulus, (also unregistered). Caris was bred by Mrs Harve, and owned by Mrs C M Bright. Mrs Bright was a specialist fancier and breeder of Blenheims at The Grange, Ivinghoe, Tring in Buckinghamshire.
Champion Caris, was one of the famous and well known Blenheims of her day, (circa 1900). She was the winner of the -Temple Barrow Challenge Cup- (3 times), for best Blenheim and also -Medal for best Toy Spaniel Bitch in Toy Dog Show-.
Champion Caris is well documented in The Hon. Mrs Neville Lytton authoritive and standard book on Toy Dogs.

This Blenheim was born on the 12th October 1901, bred by Miss R Witt, sired by Hiawatha (unregistered), and damed by Flossie, (also unregistered). The Blenheim was owned by Mrs C M Bright. Mrs Bright was a specialist fancier and breeder of Blenheims at The Grange, Ivinghoe, Tring in Buckinghamshire. Champion Cara was one of the famous and well known Blenheims of her day (circa 1900). She was a winner of 6 'Challenge Prizes' and 'Reserve For Best Non-Sporting Dog or Bitch at Kennel Club Shows'. Cara is well documented in The Hon. Mrs Neville Lytton authoritive and standard book on Toy Dogs.
