2 ) The Afghan "Champion Garrymhor Souriya" by Gladys Davison (English, early 20th century)
A pastel and crayon on buff paper of a standing Afghan Hound "Champion Garrymhor Souriya", by Gladys Davison (English, early 20th century). A famous and well documented Afgan, see, for example, Hutchinson's Popular and Illustrated Dog Encyclopedia. Garrymhor Souriya (Ashna Of Ghazni x Alfreda) was whelped 13 July 1931, by the fancier and breeder Mrs Olive Couper. Mrs Couper was simultaneously active in breeding and exhibiting German Shepherd Dogs and Salukis. Two breeds where she was a major founding influence, as well as Afghan hounds. Souriya four grandparents were all born in Afghanistan / India. Titled "Champion Garrymhor Souriya" and signed and dated bottom right Gladys Davison 1933.

Wolstanston Superb of Firenze" famously won at the Westminster Kennel Club show in 1930 "The Airedale Bowl" when in the ownership of Lt. Col. & Mrs. Guggenheim.

Lettered below the image London, Published December 8th June 1893 by Arthur Lucas the Proprietor, 31 New Bond Street W The picture was exhibited by Trood at the Royal Academy in 1893, no.415, "Wait till the clouds roll by"; Basset pups.. Then published in many periodicals of the day including the The Westminster Budget, (London, England), of 19th May 1893. Examples of the oil were sold at Sothebys, London, 13th june 1984, lot 135, and another version of the picture at Christies, King Street, 3 June 1994 lot 119, (Provenance: The artist's sale; The London Hotel, Taunton, 12 December 1899, lot 97) Perhaps the Trood titled of the picture Wait Till the Clouds Roll By was inspired by the parlor piece, with words by J. T. Wood and music by H. J. Fulmer, published in 1894

A large oil on Windsor and Newton canvas of three near life size seated Boxer dogs in picket fenced landscape by Lord Edward Joseph Bellew (Irish, 19th/20th c., for the dogs) and J.A. Daniel (British, 19th/20th c., for the landscape). To the reverse titled "Is Marriage a Failure" and dated 1890. Signed and dated, in red, bottom right Bellew .. J A Daniel .. 1890. To the reverse , in ink, titled "Is Marriage a Failure", and inscribed Dogs by Lord Bellew _ Landscape by J.A. Daniel _ 1890. [Note: Lord Bellew had travelled to German, in fact he died suddenly in 1895 at Frankfurt-am-Main-Bad Mannheim, where he was living. It is apparent from this painting in which he commissioned the London landscaped painter J A Daniel that Bellew was a fancier of the breed. It was not until 1894, when three Germans by the names of Friedrich Robert, Elard Knig, and R. Hpner decided to stabilize the breed and exhibit at dog shows. This was done in Munich in 1895, and the next year they founded the first Boxer Club, the Deutscher Boxer Club. The Deutscher Boxer Club went on to publish the first Boxer breed standard in 1902. This 1890 portrait would appear to be a very early depiction of the breed.] 34 in. x 56 inches

Coloured lithograph of a head study of pair of Briards by Lon Danchin (French, 1887-1938). Limited to 300 impressions and published by Devambez et Associ's of 43 boulevard Malesherbes, Paris. Danchin entrusted Edouard Devambez and his partner Georges Weil to publish his work from 1925 to 1932, with the lithographs usually limited from 300 to 400 editions. Signed in pencil "Lon Danchin" and numbered "92/300". Once the required number of prints was reached, the copper plate was scratched and discarded.
