A gold mounted reverse intaglio crystal of the Bulldog from Philip Reinagle RA (1749-1833) 1790 painting. Philip Reinagle's painting was later published in Taplin’s “Sportsman's Cabinet” of 1803. The crystal in rope and petal gold mount. In the celebrated “The Practical Book of the Dog” by Edward C Ash, published in 1931, he interestingly writes “Note the resemblance to the French Bulldog of to-day”. English, circa 1880
