A 19th century Aesthetic Movement ebonised and gilt firesceen / pole screen with sampler of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The Cavalier recumbent on a red tasselled cushion clearly inspired by the depiction of Dash, Queen Victoria's beloved King Charles Cavalier Spaniel from Sir Edwin Landseer's 1837-1838 famous painting "His majesty's favourite dogs and parrot", also known as "Hector, Nero and Dash with with the parrot, Lory", which can today be can be seen in the Royal Collection. The top corners with floral work and in the centre an oval of flowers framing the makers' name age and the date "Martha Shaw.agd.12 .yrs. 1850". The firesceen / pole screen in the manner of Bruce James Talbert (Scottish, 1838 - 1881) or Edward William Goodwin (English, 1833-1866). English, circa 1850

A metal shafted cane with holly handle sleeved in silver with a Setter's head, the dog wearing a oak leaf collar, and set with cabochon eyes. Assayed with the Austro-Hungarian Empire mark used for 800 purity silver from 1st March 1872 1st May 1922, and the assay mark "WB" being silver mark used in Vienna circa 1900. Stamped with a further indecipherable mark.

This image of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 'Dash' is inspired from the 1838 painting by Sir Edwin Landseer RA (1802-1873), titled "Hector, Nero and Dash with the parrot, Lory", commissioned by Queen Victoria which today can be seen in the Royal Collection. Lory in fact belonged to H.R.H The Duchess of Kent. English circa 1870
