An oil on Wood & Co canvas of a lady, her hunter and Bichon by Charles Augustus Henry Lutyens RA (English, 1829-1915). Signed bottom left “C Lutyens” and dated “79”. The canvas stencilled to the reverse “ WOOD & Co - 190 - BROMPTON ROAD / LONDON S.W.’”. Then a partly legible label to the reverse reads “3rd daughter of Lawrence …” English 1879.

A French pressed colourless frosted crystal perfume / scent flacon / bottle of a begging Bichon This most likely inspired the Dior, Fernand Guérycolas 1952 designed flacon of Monsieur Dior’s Bichon “Bobby” for the Miss Dior range.

5 ) A Bichon by George Lafayette Clough (American, 1824-1901)
A Bichon type dog in blue ribbon recumbent on a rug between a table leg and jardinière. To the reverse signed and dated in large script “G. L. Clough 1871”. The painting was clearly inspired by the work of Henriëtte Ronner-Knip (Dutch, 1821 – 1909), whom the artist perhaps met on his travels to Europe in 1850 when he visited France, Germany, Holland and Italy. In 1871 he was painting urban scenes in Cleveland, Ohio, where he also worked as a photographic tinter. American 1871

The reverse bears label “14 High Street Borough London SE”, that of picture dealer and framemakers F.S. Nichols & Co (1882-1885). English 1873.
