A late 19th century Black Forest umbrella cane stand carved as a Maltese by Claude Michel Clodion (French, 1738-1814) A late 19th century Black Forest umbrella cane stand carved as a Maltese standing on his hind legs. Clodion's statue being flanked by two similar standing Maltese dogs. German, circa 1880.

A miniature oil on panel of Pugs by Horatio Henry Couldery (1832 - 1893) A miniature oil on panel of two Pugs in a barn by Horatio Henry Couldery (1832 - 1893). One seated startled and fascinated by an approaching Stag Beetle, clearly an interruption to his bone. The other unaware and asleep in an upturned barrel.
Though unsigned this skilful miniature painting, its subject matter, composition, the detail to the breed and scene, the sensitivity and depth, and tightness of the brushwork are the work of Horatio Henry Couldery.
English, circa 1870.
