An oil of a head of a dapple grey horse inquisitive with a pair of fawn Pugs by Julius von Blaas (Italian / Austrian 1845–1923). Signed and dated top left “Julius von Blaas 1884”. The reverse bears gallery label for Colin Stodgell Fine Art , 2B Pavor Road Torquay. A similar composition by von Blaas was sold at Bonhams New York “Dogs In Show And Field” 17th February 2016, lot 154.

Signed bottom right “C F Tunnicliffe”. English, circa 1966. Provenance: Tunnicliffe travelled to Belgrave Place, SW1 around 1966 to sketch the pug Benny. He then executed the watercolour at his studio in Anglesea and sent the picture back to London . It has remained in the family by descent since then.

An oil on canvas of the Swarland Pugs on an interior stairway at Swarland Hall by Wilson Hepple (English, 1854-1937). The framed work is signed and dated "Wilson Hepple 1898". The label on the reverse reads "Owned by Mrs. Hugh Andrews of Swarland Hall, Swarland, Northumberland, who exhibited pugs 1896-1912. The standing dog, with puppy behind his legs, is "Ch. Taurus of Swarland." The puppy "Ch. Nancy of Swarland" won her first Ch. Certificate at Crutts 1899. The standing bitch (is) "Tetty of Swarland" and the other two dogs (are) "Prince of Swarland" and "Darius of Swarland." English 1898

A miniature oil on panel of two Pugs in a barn by Horatio Henry Couldery (1832 - 1893). One seated startled and fascinated by an approaching Stag Beetle, clearly an interruption to his bone. The other unaware and asleep in an upturned barrel. Though unsigned this skilful miniature painting, its subject matter, composition, the detail to the breed and scene, the sensitivity and depth, and tightness of the brushwork are the work of Horatio Henry Couldery. English, circa 1870.
