1 ) French Greyhound knife rests / porte couteaux & place settings, circa 1950's
A set of 12 French running Greyhound silver metal / metal argente knife rests / ‘porte couteaux’ unusually facilitating as place settings, circa 1950's, Each Greyhound mounted on a rectangular teak base. Complete in their beautifully velvet lined original box. In the style of Edouard-Marcel Sandoz (1881 – 1971). French, circa 1950.

2 ) A porcelain Greyhound and hare by Jacob Petit (French, 1796-1865)
A porcelain standing Greyhound with a hare between its legs by Jacob Petit (French, 1796-1865). Signed on the base “JP”. Jacob Petit (French, 1796-1865) was one of the most famous French porcelain manufacturers of the 19th century. He began studying painting at Gros, then left Paris for England which gave him the taste for decorative objects. On his return to France in 1830, he published a book of interior decoration. His greatest interest was though in porcelain. By 1838 he bought Weill Baruch, in Fontainebleau. In 1850, he merged his two factories in Avon, but some years later, in 1862, he retires from Paradise Street Poissonière, transferring its business to one of his workers, Jacquemain.

7 ) A Erbach "Black Forest" ivory carved Greyhound tie / stick pin
A "Black Forest" ivory carved standing Greyhound stick pin. Such carvings were from German workshop of the Graf von Erbach-Erbach in Odenwald, and the Kehrer family at Erbach, Ernst (working 1830-40) and his son Edouard (1812-63). They were made from around 1830 to 1860. Examples can be seen in the jewellery collection of the British Museum, London, for example there is a brooch with the same dog seated with stag and deer. German, circa 1850.

A superbly sculptured 18 / 19.2 carat gold standing Greyhound brooch. The reverse bearing Portugal, Lisbon assay mark for 800 gold, being 19.2 carat gold used from 1938-1984. The bar bearing similar assay marks for and the French eagle hallmark for 18 carat gold, as used since 1838. French, circa 1920

An oil on canvas of the celebrated Greyhound "Honeywood" standing in a landscape by James Armstrong (English, 19th Century). Titled "Honeywood 1880 and signed bottom left James Armstrong Gretna Green Carlisle. Honeywell owned by Mr R B Carruthers won the Waterloo Cup in 1880. English, circa 1885. The Waterloo Cup The Waterloo Cup was the biggest annual hare coursing event in the United Kingdom and was often referred to by its supporters as the blue riband event of the coursing year. Run as a knock-out tournament between sixty four coursing greyhounds from Great Britain and Ireland, the three day event was run annually at Great Altcar in Lancashire, from 1836 to 2005 and used to attract tens of thousands of spectators to watch and gamble on the coursing matches.

An oil on canvas of the celebrated Greyhound "Bed of Stone" standing in a landscape by James Armstrong (English, 19th Century). Titled "Bed of Stone, 1872 and signed bottom left James Armstrong Gretna Green Carlisle. Bed of Stone, owned by Mr J A S Briggs of Blackburn won the Waterloo Cup in 1872. There was a print published of Bed of Stone after the painting by James Armstrong. English, circa 1885. Bed of Stone Bed of Stone, whelped in 1868, was a coursing pioneer, she became the first Greyhound ever to win all three Waterloo divisions: the Waterloo Purse (1870), the Waterloo Plate (1871) and the Waterloo Cup (1872). The Waterloo Cup The Waterloo Cup was the biggest annual hare coursing event in the United Kingdom and was often referred to by its supporters as the blue riband event of the coursing year. Run as a knock-out tournament between sixty four coursing greyhounds from Great Britain and Ireland, the three day event was run annually at Great Altcar in Lancashire, from 1836 to 2005 and used to attract tens of thousands of spectators to watch and gamble on the coursing matches.

Oil on canvas of the celebrated Greyhound "Master Mc Grath" by James Armstrong (English, 19th Century) An oil on canvas of the celebrated Greyhound "Master McGrath" standing in a landscape by James Armstrong (English, 19th Century). Titled "Master McGrath 1868, 69, + 1871" and signed bottom left James Armstrong Gretna Green Carlisle. Master McGrath won the Waterloo Cup on three occasions, 1868, 1869 and 1871. There was a series of lithographs titled The Celebrated Greyhound Champion drawn on stone by James McGahey, 18 School Lane, Liverpool, from paintings after James Armstrong that featured Master McGarth. English, circa 1885. Master McGrath He won the Waterloo Cup on three occasions, 1868, 1869 and 1871 and was the first greyhound to do so. He became such a celebrity that his owner Charles Brownlow, the 2nd Baron Lurgan KP (1831 1882) was asked to take him to be seen by Queen Victoria and the Royal Family. His success enabled his owner to build a terrace of houses in Walthamstow from Master McGrath's winnings. These houses now form part of Shernhall Street, but are still clearly marked at one end of the terrace as "Master McGrath Terrace". A gold and gem set running Greyhound coursing brooch. The dog wears a gold rose coloured collar, set with old cut diamonds, and the eye is set with a cabochon ruby. The gold work is finely sculptured and chassed. Indecipherable assay mark to the reverse. English, circa 1890.

A rare before letters artist proof Mixed method engraving on chine-collé of two coursing Greyhounds at full pace in chase of a hare, all startling a seagull as they reach a sea cliff edge. With the painter's signature reproduced in the image 'Alfred W Strutt' bottom right. In Stutt’s 1981 preparatory pen and ink he titled the work “Stop! Stop!! Stop!!!”.
