52 ) Very rare 19th century cast iron garden Setter / hound seat / bench by the James Stephens Iron Works of Galway 1851.
A very rare mid-19th century cast iron garden Setter / hound seat / bench by the James Stephens Iron Works of Galway, dated 1851. With grape decoration to the back, the side supports of vines and serpent, and the arms with Setter / hound head and paw feet. Irish 1851 This is a variant of a casting design produced circa 1844, by the Coalbrookdale Foundry. The Coalbrookdale design, number 17597, is the second oldest seat design registered and patented by the Foundry at the Public Records Office, on 6th April 1844. It further appears as seat No. 9 in their 1875 Castings Catalogue, Section III, page 249 James Stephens’ foundry was on Merchant’s Road and they were responsible in 1851 for the cast-ironwork Lough Athalia Bridge, (one of the finest of its kind in Ireland), and iron work to the roof of the Galway terminus.

A bronze of a Setter / Braque at work by Georges Gardet (French, 1863-1939), this casting unusually mounted on chiselled marble terrace. The foundry for this work was the 'Societes Des Bronzes de Paris'. Carved into the marble “Georges Gardet”. French, circa 1900 Gardet was made an Officer of the Legion of Honor in 1900, and was a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, and the Society of French Artists.

A tall, painted, antique cast iron stick stand with oak twig and leaf decoration and two holders, above a seated Setter. The stand has removable semi-circular drip tray stamped 'C.G.F.' The model was popularised by Coalbrookdal. English.

A very fine and rare German bronze , circa 1900, of a setter at work. Note the unusual slip collar. Inscribed to the side of the base "Seinem scheidenden Kommandeur Herrn Oberst Hopfe, das Offiziercorps des 4. Magdeburg. Infanterie Regiments No. 67, 18.4.03 - 18.5.05". Clearly an appreciating gift to Kommandeur Hopfe, comanber of the 4th Magdeburg. Infantry Regiments No. 67, from 18.4.03 - 18.5.05. German circa 1900.

A mezzotint of Setters in a forest setting engraved by William Ward ARA (English, 1762-1826) after the painting by after George Morland (English, 1763-1804). Titled "SETTERS". London, Published June 15th 1806 by James Linnell 2, Streatham Street, Charlotte Street, Bloomsbury. Lettered bottom left "Painted by G. Morland" and bottom right "Engraved by Wm. Ward, Engraver to H.R.H. the Duke of York" The engraving is illustrated in “The life of George Morland”, by George Dawe, R.A. (1781-1829.), with an introduction and notes by J. J. Foster (1847-1923), published by Dickensons, London, 1904.
