A mezzotint of two Pointers in a forest setting engraved by William Ward ARA (English, 1762-1826) after the painting by John Nost Sartorius (English, 1759-1828). Titled “POINTERS. London, Published June 16th 1806 by James Linnell No. 2, Streatham Street, Bloomsbury”. Lettered bottom left ”T N Sartorious” and bottom right “Engraved by W. Ward, Engraver to H.R.H. the Duke of York.” The Lennox-Boyd database lists three states not listed by Frankau: (i) proof before letters; (ii) with closed letters and the word 'Proof'; (iii) with the word 'Proof' erased. This is the third state. There is an example in the collection of the British Museum.

London, Published June 15th 1806 by James Linnell 2, Streatham Street, Charlotte Street, Bloomsbury. Lettered bottom left "Painted by G. Morland" and bottom right "Engraved by Wm. Ward, Engraver to H.R.H. the Duke of York" The engraving is illustrated in “The life of George Morland”, by George Dawe, R.A. (1781-1829.), with an introduction and notes by J. J. Foster (1847-1923), published by Dickensons, London, 1904.
