A photogravure of Queen Alexandra (1844 – 1925), Danish born wife of King Edward VII of England feeding her dogs a Borzoi, Scottish Deerhound, Four Collies, Schipperke and two Bassett hounds & pup, sugar lumps from a basket on her arm, besides the Royal kennels at Sandringham House. She is accompanied by Princess Mary Windsor (later The Princess Royal) 1897 -1965 beside her at right, Princes Albert George (later King George VI) 1895 -1952 and David Edward (later King Edward VIII) 1894 -1972 at her left, the keeper standing in the trees behind them at right, beyond at left a further man opens a gate to let another Collie join the group. A fabulous 18 carat gold, diamond ruby brooch of a head study of a King Charles Cavalier by Charles-Eugène Thiénot.The dog has cabochon cut ruby eyes and wears a diamond collar and bow mille grain and platinum set with 14 old cut diamonds. The reverse is inscribed “C Thiénot 3”. The clasp is further stamped and assayed. French, circa 1905. Charles-Eugène, and highly respected French jeweller, sculptor and Art Noveau artist who exhibited at the prestigious Paris Salon, circa 1900. Such pieces included canine and cat subjects.
