A Japanese Meiji period embroidery in fine silk thread on brown silk of a recumbent St. Bernard in short and tall grasses. Possibly inspired after a painting by Alexander Pope (American, 1848-1924). And possibly Sozayemon Nishimura of Kyoto and Tokyo purveyor to His Imperial Japanese Majesty's household. Japanese circa 1905.

Miniature on ivory of a "Basset Hound", titled on the reverse "Left behind", signed "Gertrude Massey" (English, 1868-1957). Set within original gilt-metal frame with pierced ribbon crest. The reverse bears label “The New Gallery Summer Exhibition 1906” and completed in ink in the artist’s hand “H H Princess Toussoun’s Basset Hound “Count” Mrs Gertrude Massey 11 Melina Place Grove End Rd. N.W. Is believed to be Princess Fatma Toussoun, nee' Ismail, (1851-1920) sister of Khedive Tewfik, Sultan Hussein & King Fouad I, a dog fancier particularly in the Pekingese breed. The dog interestingly titled “Basset Hound” is clearly a variant of a Basset Griffon. Signed bottom right “Gertrude Massey” English, circa 1906, provenance by family descent.

Oil on canvas of the Rough Collie "Ch. Rufford Ormonde" standing upon a red patterned carpet within an oak panelled interior by Herbert St John Jones (English, 1872-1939) Signed and dated 'Herbert H Jones 1906' To the reverse inscribed: "High Life original sketch by H. H. Jones of Nantwich Rufford Ormonde (CSB 2336) bred by Mr Stretch Ormskirk 1906" Ch. Rufford Ormonde won his first C.C at The Kennel Club Show of 1892, when he also won, what is now the British Collie Club Challenge Trophy for, the first time. He won this trophy further, twice in 1894, after his name change. This makes him the only dog to have won this trophy in different names, Ormskirk Ormonde and Rufford Ormonde.

This is believed to be the artist’s 1906 exhibit, “Cat 67 Fluff – Persian Cat – Ploopy” at The Royal Scottish Academy and then exhibited at The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts in 1907.
