A circa 1900 polychrome terracotta tobacco pot / jar / pot à tabac in the form of a black and white seated Cocker Spaniel, by Bruder Bloch (les fréres Bloch). Marked to the base lettered and numbered “BB 52”. Bruder Bloch Austrian, circa 1900. Bruder Bloch company was specialized, from 1870 to 1910, in the production of decorative vases, tobacco jars or smoking services. The production ended in 1914 with the purchase of its production equipment by Meissen.

The backs with central motif of a boar’s head set amongst vine leaves and grapes. Incised with the maker’s mark “MAPLES & CO” and catalogue number “25580”, and further label: DRUCE & CO., Upholsterers, cabinet Makers, & C., 68, 69, & 58, BAKER STREET PORTMAN SQUARE” Druce & Co were renowned antique furniture cabinet makers and furniture restorers based in Baker street London. They would make, upholster and restore furniture for the wealthy clientele throughout the Victorian era.Druce & Co

99 ) From one of twenty five photogravures, including His Majesty The King's Irish Terrier 'Jack', on laid paper with the Abbey Mills and crown watermark, the photogravures on wove paper. A limited edition of 500, printed by Chiswick Press, London, and publish
The creation of the photogravure plate was a complicated process requiring work by a photographer and experienced master-engraver. First, a copper plate was coated with a light-sensitive gelatine tissue which had been exposed to a film positive, and then etched, resulting in a high-quality intaglio print that can reproduce the detail and continuous tones of a photograph. It is a manual process leave a plate impression in the paper. The quality of the photogravure depends on the masterly execution by the engraver.
